Styling a Bedroom with Heart: Inside Hobart's Del Sol Treehouse - Part 2

Bedroom Styling & The MAgic of Linen | A Storybook Escape: Part Two

When Jizelle White created her Hobart Airbnb, she didn't want it to feel like anywhere else. She wanted it to feel like Tasmania: earthy, considered, and quietly beautiful in every room.

In part one, we talked about the bones of the renovation and the rhythm of hosting. Today, we're stepping into the bedrooms, the quiet heart of any home, to see how Jizelle wove a real sense of place into every corner, drawing on Tasmania's earthy palette and unhurried way of living. From layering our White Farmhouse Stripe against soft Sandstone tones, to grounding a guest room in the deep, mossy calm of Kelp, this is a masterclass in styling that feels rooted in where you've come from as much as where you've landed.

Pour a cup of tea and settle in. This Part Two Journal Post is for anyone who's ever stood in a half-finished room wondering where on earth to start.

Styling the Beds at The Canopy & Seahorse Studio

Let's talk about the bedrooms, which are arguably the most important part of any retreat. How do you approach styling the beds in The Canopy and the Seahorse Studio to make them look so inviting?

I personally despise the crispy, starched sheets and tucked-in tight hospital corners that some hotels pride themselves on. I immediately rumple and untuck a bed when staying in a place like that. I want to feel cocooned, not constricted by bedding.

For Del Sol, I wanted to use durable and natural materials where possible that enhance the house story, which is why Salt Living fits the bill. The outside is reflected inside in the bedding choices.

I love bedding with contrasting colours and patterns, as I feel it really elevates the cosy cottage-core vibe of our bedrooms. The bed set up itself is usually minimal, but the character of the room is complemented by the bedding choices, and cemented by the decor. It all feels connected.

I think the imperfections and subtle creases of linen is what makes it feel inviting and lived in. It avoids that feeling of not wanting to disturb something that is presented too perfectly; instead, you just want to lie on it!

I have coached my housekeepers in how to make a neat and tidy 'lasagne' bed, but it shouldn't look too perfect or have too many pillows. Lots of pillows look great for pictures, but for the reality of hosting, too many pillows means they end up on the floor and become a hygiene issue, so I tend to stick with two per person for day-to-day turnovers.

Jizelle's take-home tip: a beautiful bed isn't a perfect one. Let the linen fall a little imperfectly, and keep pillow numbers realistic: two per person is plenty.

Why Jizelle Chose Salt Living French Flax Linen

We are so thrilled that you chose to use Salt Living's premium French Flax linen for your guests. What drew you to our linen for Del Sol Treehouse, and how does the texture and drape of pre-washed linen contribute to the overall aesthetic and comfort of the rooms?

I really love the subtle colours and patterns, especially the earthy tones which reflect the ethos of Del Sol so perfectly. The material is textured in just the right way, and it is super easy to mix and match the sets as they complement each other seamlessly. The natural fibres mean it is cosy in winter but cool in summer, great for the extremes of Tassie weather, and the sheets layer so effortlessly with such a lovely drape.

I always go a size up for flat sheets to the bed size, so there is plenty of overhang and no one is left pulling a cover to their side when it's chilly. Thankfully, Salt Living does a super king too!

I have found Salt Living linen is up to the task of lots of washing, and it just gets softer and more relaxed with each cycle. My guests often comment on how beautiful the bedding is. It photographs really well in the bedroom spaces.

Choosing an Earth-Toned Palette for the Treehouse

When it comes to colour palettes, how do you choose the right hues for your bedding to complement the woody, natural surroundings of the treehouse?

Everything in the space has a warm and cosy feeling: the lighting, the furnishings, the vibe, so it was a no-brainer to then choose earth-toned and warm-toned bedding to align. Though I personally love blue coastal tones in my Gold Coast house, I avoid cool tones for Del Sol, as I am more drawn to creams, beige, greens and browns, which reflect the natural elements of the garden outside.

It's a lovely reminder that styling isn't about a single "right" palette. It's about choosing colours that speak to the place itself. For a treehouse wrapped in timber and garden, that meant leaning into our Neutrals collection and letting warmth do the talking.

Caring for Linen Between Guest Stays

Caring for linen in a busy Airbnb environment can be daunting for some. Could you share your process for washing and maintaining the linen between guest stays, and any advice for managing quick turnovers while still keeping the bedding impeccably presented?

We have multiple linen sets (five at least) in rotation for each bed, which means my housekeepers can take a little time when they are washing the bedding. My housekeepers tend to wash on a gentle cycle with medium heat and then hang the sheets in the sun to dry. In winter, the sun is a bit of a premium in Tassie, so we tumble dry the linen on low to medium heat when needed.

I really love adding a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus oil in with my laundry liquid during the wash, or a light spray of house fragrance from Saarde (Anatolia is my favourite) onto the flat sheets once they are stored in the linen cupboard.

If sheets are looking a little too crinkled, a spray bottle with just water in it is helpful to relax the fibres. A quick spray, let it settle, then smooth it out with your hands and a shake to help keep the deep wrinkles at bay.

Jizelle's laundry ritual: gentle cycle, medium heat, sun-dried where possible, and a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus for a softly scented, lived-in feel.

A huge thank you to Jizelle for inviting us into her world and sharing the beautiful story behind Del Sol Treehouse. It is truly inspiring to see how much love, intentionality, and hard work goes into creating a space that allows others to pause, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature.
