How to Style

~ Flip it with the season: Style one side facing up through summer and the reverse through winter. Two distinct looks from a single reversible quilt, no extra purchase needed.

~ Add shams for the finishing layer: A reversible quilt on its own is complete, but a matching tone sham in front of your sleeping pillows is the detail that makes a bed look properly styled rather than just made.

~ Wash before the first use: Even fresh from us, a reversible quilt benefits from one gentle wash before its first night. It's the fastest way to bring out the softness the fabric is capable of.

~ Finish the base, not just the top: A ruffled valance in a tone from your reversible quilt hides the bed base and keeps dust from settling underneath, a small detail that makes the whole room feel finished rather than half done.

Meet the Founder

Together with my parents, Carol and Steve, we opened Salt Living in early 2015 - and it’s been our greatest joy ever since.

My days are spent working on Salt Living or moving between home in Coffs Harbour and our Gold Coast warehouse. When not working I'll either be spending time with my son, frolicking in the sea, painting or deep in a Pinterest rabbit hole, absorbing all the beautiful tones, textures, and interiors that inspire me.

But one of my greatest joys is linen — and the quiet ritual of returning home to a bed layered with freshly laundered sheets and a fluffy, crisp duvet.

Our Story

Our Linen Quilt Collection

A reversible quilt has a different job to almost anything else in a bedroom. It's not styled for a photograph and put away, it's slept under, every night, in every season. So while our Linen Quilts collection spans the same colour range as the rest of Salt Living, from French Blue and Sea Green through to Sandstone and White Farmhouse Stripe, every piece is built first for how it performs, not just how it looks folded at the end of the bed.

Each reversible quilt is finished, ready to use, with its own fill built in, no separate cover to source or match, and woven with two useable sides. That reversibility is a small design choice with a big styling payoff: a lighter tone for one season, a deeper or contrasting tone for the next, without buying a second quilt. The linen shell is woven between 170 and 185gsm and stonewashed before it ever reaches you, so it arrives with a softness most bedding takes months of washing to earn. Customers regularly tell us this is the one purchase that changes how they sleep, warm enough for winter without the bulk of a traditional doona, and breathable enough that summer doesn't mean switching it out.

Because the whole collection runs across our full palette, a reversible quilt bought today will still sit comfortably alongside whatever we release next. That continuity matters to us, and it's why interior stylists treat our reversible quilts as a long-term investment rather than a seasonal replacement. Every reversible quilt carries the same OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and European Flax certification as the rest of the range, and if you're ever unsure which weight, colour or side to style facing up, you're welcome to call. We're a small enough team that the person who answers will actually know the answer.

Should I size up when choosing my quilt?
Many customers choose to size up from their mattress size for a fuller, more generous drape over the sides. If you love an oversized, lived-in look on the bed, sizing up is worth considering, particulalry if you share your bed with a partner. In saying that, ordering the same size to match your mattress size also works well. We have customers who do both, it really is a personal preference. You can measure your bed and use our size guide to know you are getting the perfect size!
What's the difference between a quilt and a duvet?
A quilt is a finished, ready-to-use product, similar to a blanket or a coverlet. It has 2 layers of 100% linen, with a layer with its own bambo fill in between. These three layers have been stitched together in a diamond pattern; no cover needed. Our duvet covers are used in combination with your own duvet or 'doona' insert which is placed inside, and then buttoned closed. Our quilts are sold as stand alone pieces, while our duvet covers come in a set with pillowcases.
How do I pair a quilt with shams?
Shams sit on top of the quilt, in front of your sleeping pillows. They're purely decorative, adding a considered, finishing touch, the kind of detail that makes a bed look professionally styled rather than just made. Most customers choose a matching sham, the same colourway as their quilt, but a contrasting one from elsewhere in our range for something more layered and adventurous can also be fun!
Why are your quilts reversible?
Every quilt is woven with two useable sides, giving you more versatility for styling. The 2 sides have been designed to change up your look season to season, a lighter tone for summer, a deeper tone for winter, so it works as two quilts in one, which our customers adore!
How do the quilts perform across seasons?
They're a lightweight alternative to a duvet in summer, and a cosy extra layer in winter. Made from breathable linen and bamboo fill, this year-round versatility is one of the main reasons customers choose them over swapping bedding types season to season.
