Farmhouse

Farmhouse

Sandstone tones and a farmhouse stripe we weave in rather than print on, made for a bedroom that favours warmth and texture over polish. This is linen that's meant to be lived in from the very first night, the way it has been in Tasmania's old homesteads for generations.

At Salt Living, we believe

Home is more than a place ~ it’s a feeling. A quiet moment at the end of each day.

Our mission is to help enhance those moments by offering beautifully crafted, premium bedding that brings comfort and a timeless, seaside aesthetic into your home. Inspired by nature and designed with heart by Jacinta, each collection is made from high quality materials in exclusive colours, and a deep care for how you feel in your space. We aim to empower the decorator in you, offering confidence, inspiration, and the kind of service that feels personal — like coming home.

How to Style

~ Don't over-iron it: Farmhouse linen is meant to soften and relax with wear. Skip the iron and let the natural creases become part of the look, the way an old homestead never looks freshly pressed.

~ Add one accent colour: A single French Blue or Kelp cushion against an otherwise Sandstone bed picks out just enough colour without disrupting the warmth of the palette.

~ Mix the stripe with plain sandstone: Pair the farmhouse stripe duvet with plain Sandstone pillowcases rather than stripe throughout. The texture reads best against a quiet background.

~ Let the rest of the room earn its keep: Timber underfoot with a well-worn jute or wool rug, a ruffled valance to keep the bed base out of sight, a lamp left glowing of an evening rather than a single light overhead. The kind of detail an old homestead gets right without ever trying.

~ Round it off simply: A pair of square cushions in front of your sleeping pillows is the easy, familiar finish, in keeping with a farmhouse bed that's never trying too hard. If even a pair feels like more than the room needs, one long lumbar cushion across the width of the bed does the same job without any fuss.

Meet the Founder

Together with my parents, Carol and Steve, we opened Salt Living in early 2015 - and it’s been our greatest joy ever since.

My days are spent working on Salt Living or moving between home in Coffs Harbour and our Gold Coast warehouse. When not working I'll either be spending time with my son, frolicking in the sea, painting or deep in a Pinterest rabbit hole, absorbing all the beautiful tones, textures, and interiors that inspire me.

But one of my greatest joys is linen — and the quiet ritual of returning home to a bed layered with freshly laundered sheets and a fluffy, crisp duvet.

Thank you for being here.

with love, Jacinta

Our Farmhouse Collection

Farmhouse style has never been about looking new, it's about a room that feels like it's always been this way, warm and a little worn in, the kind of feeling you get walking into one of Tasmania's historic homesteads. Our Farmhouse collection is built entirely around that idea: Sandstone tones and a Sandstone Farmhouse Stripe, in French Flax Linen chosen because it only gets more comfortable with time, never less.

The stripe itself is woven, not printed, which is part of why it holds up to years of washing the way it does. A printed pattern fades unevenly and can look patchy within a season, while a woven stripe simply softens, the way the rest of the fabric does. Every piece is stonewashed before it reaches you and yarn-dyed prior to weaving, at a substantial 170 to 185gsm, so despite the relaxed, easy feel, there's real weight and durability behind it. Customers tell us this is often the collection that convinces a first-time linen buyer. The texture does so much of the work that it barely needs styling to look finished.

Because the palette stays deliberately narrow, mainly Sandstone and Sandstone Farmhouse Stripe, it mixes easily with almost anything else in our range, from a plain neutral reversible quilt to a French Blue cushion picked up from another collection entirely. We hear from customers doing exactly this more often than almost any other pairing. Every piece carries the same OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and European Flax certification as the rest of Salt Living, tested and verified safe from the very first wash, and made by the same small, family-run team who still answer the phone when you call.

Getting a farmhouse bedroom to feel authentically lived in, rather than staged to look that way, is a skill in itself, and one I've spent years helping people develop in their own homes. I'm Jacinta Bishop of Salt Living, and whether you already trust your instinct here or would rather lean on mine, I'm happy either way, that's exactly the kind of guidance I set out to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do people usually style the Farmhouse Stripe?
Most pair it with plain Sandstone or matching pillowcases for a coordinated, considered set rather than mixing in an unrelated pattern.
What fill do your quilts use?
A soft, breathable bamboo fill, chosen for how it drapes and breathes rather than sitting heavy on the bed.
What does GSM actually mean, and why does it matter?
It's the fabric's weight, ours sits between 170 and 190gsm, dense enough for genuine strength and structure while still breathing well in warmer months.
Do interior designers work with Salt Living?
Yes, many interior designers trust and choose us for their clients. If that's you, our trade program sign-up page has everything you need to get started.
How do I care for it long term?
Machine wash gently in cool or warm water, line dry in shade, no bleach or tumble dryer. Designed to soften and last, not wear thin.
